Letters to the Seven Churches

The 7 Brides of Revelation

In the book of Revelation, the seven letters to the seven churches present to us the conditions that can be found in any church, in any age. Metaphors are given to us in the scriptures to help us, as the church, understand our relationship to Him. The most intimate metaphor used is the church as the bride of Christ. Isaiah 54:5 declares this explicitly, “For your Maker is your husband.” When we read the letters from this perspective of a husband to his wife, it draws out the meaning in a more painfully intimate fashion that allows us to feel Christ’s Joy and heartbreak over His church. It also reminds us of how quickly we as the body of Christ can be infiltrated by teaching and practices that can destroy our witness for Him.
